Giovedì 2 dicembre
9.00-9.30
Il tema del Workshop e le dinamiche del suo svolgimento saranno introdotte dal prof. Arturo
Vittori. Durante la presentazione verrà illustrato, inoltre, l’itinerario didattico che sarà seguito
nell’arco delle 3 giornate in programma.
9.30-10.00
Dario Donato, architectural engineer at SpatialConnection(s), introdurrà agli studenti
partecipanti la modellazione algoritmica parametrica con Grasshopper.
10.00-18.00 (pausa pranzo dalle 13.30 alle 15.00)
Gli studenti selezionati verranno suddivisi in 5 gruppi di 4 componenti, a ciascuno dei quali
verrà af”dato uno speci”co tema da sviluppare inerente alle linee guida del progetto.
Grazie alla tecnica del BrainStorming i partecipanti faranno emergere le loro idee per
rispondere alla questione principale posta come tema. Al termine di questa fase (considerata la
più produttiva delle tre giornate), si passerà all’ideazione vera e propria del progetto.
I partecipanti seguiranno l’iter progettuale aiutati da strumenti d’avanguardia, utilizzando la
modellazione con Grasshopper e supportati dai collaboratori , che saranno costantemente a
disposizione in tutte le fasi del workshop.
Venerdì 3 dicembre
9.00-13.30
In questa prima parte della giornata i partecipanti si dedicheranno allo studio e alla scelta delle
proprietà interattive che desidereranno apportare al progetto.
La fase successiva vedrà gli studenti impegnati nella programmazione della parte elettronica e
nel successivo utilizzo della piattaforma Arduino. Questa sarà a tutti gli effetti il “cuore
interattivo” del progetto stesso, ovvero la parte che permetterà di rispondere a tutte quelle
esigenze e a tutti quegli obiettivi pre”ssati durante la fase progettuale.
15.00-18.00
Finita la fase progettuale, nel prosieguo del pomeriggio gli studenti potranno iniziare la fase di
prototipazione.
Saranno messi a disposizione tutti gli strumenti e i materiali idonei alla realizzazione del
progetto vero e proprio in tutte le sue componenti. Si procederà, quindi, con la scelta dei
materiali da utilizzare, il successivo il taglio degli stessi a seguire con una prima fase di
assemblaggio.
Sabato 4 dicembre
9.00-13.30
L’intera mattinata sarà dedicata alla fase di assemblaggio “nale di tutte le parti del progetto.
Potendo, dunque, usufruire del prototipo ormai terminato, i partecipanti avranno il tempo di
veri”care il corretto funzionamento di ciascuna delle parti elettroniche e di apportare, qualora
fosse ritenuto necessario, le ultime modi”che in vista dell’esposizione “nale.
15.00-18.00
Alcuni partecipanti avranno il compito di proseguire nella veri”ca “nale che il progetto si
dimostri conforme a quelle che sono state le premesse alla base del workshop e che inoltre
risponda correttamente a tutti i requisiti richiesti.
La restante parte degli studenti si occuperà della preparazione della presentazione del progetto
e del successivo allestimento della mostra che si svolgerà in serata.
18.00-21.00
Presentazione “nale e mostra del lavoro svolto dagli studenti durante il Workshop.

Un ringraziamento particolare a tutti coloro, che attivamente e passivamente hanno contibuito alla grande riuscita dell’evento, attirando/rinnovando/sperimantando le nuove frontiere della tecnologia e della tecnica.

In particolare vorrei citare il Prof.Arch.Arturo Vittori, per avermi dato l’opportunità di esprimermi con quelle che sono le tematiche della mia professione, della mia passione, della mia vita…

Curvaceious Wood Pavilion

Part yoga pavilion, part outdoor classroom, the South Pond Pavilion at Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo is a stunning architectural statement located along the Zoo’s new Nature Boardwalk.

Designed by Chicago-based Studio Gang Architects, the prefab pavilion is part of a larger effort to rehabilitate the zoo’s dilapidated pond into a natural habitat and exhibit of pond life. The project also features a boardwalk made from recycled plastic milk bottles, and other educational components.

Studio Gang Architects’ design for the South Pond Pavilion was inspired by the tortoise shell. It features pre-fabricated wooden planks that have been interconnected and milled to form the curving structural members. The top of the pavilion is covered semi-transparent fiberglass pods, which let light filter in while still protecting those underneath. Yoga classes and other educational programs use the pavilion regularly.

The pavilion is part of a larger redevelopment of the pond at the Lincoln Park Zoo designed by Studio Gang. Their project largely consists of rehabilitating a dilapidated, 19th century urban park pond fed by city tap water into an exhibit on pond life. The depth of the pond was increased to improve oxygenation for aquatic life, and a wetland was engineered along the water’s edge with new plantings and drainage to encourage new wildlife and vegetation. A boardwalk made from recycled plastic now circles the pond and includes educational kiosks.

The architects Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler directors of Architecture and Vision, an international architectural and design studio that is based in Rome, Toulouse and Munich, last year won the competition for “La Macchina di Santa Rosa!!

The tower totally projected and developed through Rhino linking scenography aspect, innovation and fabbrication.

SOFTlab is one of the most talented design studios in New York; they recently won the New Practices New York Award and they need your help to produce an installation at the Bridgegallery in the lower east side of Manhattan. The continuous surface of gradient colors was constructed with more than 5000 individual panels, each one of a different color. It is really interesting how SOFTlab is creating complex geometries out of everyday materials. In this case the project only utilizes ink, photo-paper and paper clips. Each individual panel was laser cut and engraved with the sponsor’s name. The project was possible through the sponsorship of hundreds of individuals willing to see a gallery filled with color.

Human-Scale Spider Web

Design team Numen/For Use transformed 700 rolls of clear packing tape into an incredible human-size inhabitable spider web at DMY Belin 2010. The weaving took place over four consecutive days inside of the Tempelhof former airport. 49,213 yards (45 km) of tape wrapped around constructed scaffolding posts allowed visitors to experience the installation by crawling around inside.
This is the 5th Tape Installation exhibited by Numen/For Use, and it is the only time a scaffolding construction support had to be constructed due to location restrictions. The installation took approximately 160 hours and was erected by six workers. Previous installations used up to 1000 rolls of tape costing approximately $620 US dollars (500 Euro) and were woven around structural components that already existed on site. The cocoon shape is realized through the design concept of dance performance. As dancers weave in, out, and around existing pillars, a trail of tape records the history of each dancer’s step. The entangled surfaces present a unique relationship between man-made materials and natural organisms inside an environment which encourages the visitor to engage with spatially. The mechanical and chemical construction qualities of tape combined with the amorphous nature of the organic structure unwinds a special narrative that is a beautiful showcase of bio-mimicry.

Dazzling Solar Powered OR2 Tree Structure Pops Up in London

Don’t be startled if you see a luminous pink tree sitting in London’s Belgrave Square this weekend — it’s just OR2, a combination shading device and solar-powered chandelier designed by London-based Orproject. The structure’s purpose is twofold: it acts as a source of shade during the day, and it turns into a dazzling chandelier at night, dispersing light collected by photovoltaic cells hours before.

he pink-tinted structure, built as part of the London Festival of Architecture, is a follow-up project to the OR single-surface solar roof structure. OR2 is translucent while in the shade, but it quickly fills in with color when exposed to sunlight.

According to the designers, OR and OR2 are the first structures to use photo-reactive technology at an architectural scale. The designers explain, “The beauty of OR2 is its constant interaction with the elements, at each moment of the day OR’s appearance is unique.”

Want to check out OR2 in person? It’s on display until July 4 at the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

Seule commune insulaire du Grand Paris, l’Ile Saint-Denis compte aujourd’hui une population de soixante douze mille habitants.

L’île s’étend sur huit kilomètres de long et deux cent mètres de large, néanmoins soixante dix sept hectares du territoire de l’île sont des terres submergées, soit plus de quarante pour cent de la commune.

Résultants d’une importante activité industrielle passée, les espaces résiduels, terrains vagues, sols et eaux sont fortement pollués.

Ecosystèmes Modulables est construit comme une hyper-structure paysagère. Stratégiquement identifiable, elle est planifiée pour sauvegarder divers processus appartenant au paysage naturel-biologique et artificiel local.

Le projet fonctionne comme un instrument efficace de croissance remédiant l’urbanisation informelle et irrégulière, contexte de la banlieue parisienne. Etienne Gozard spécule et vise à planifier en projetant des scénarios plausibles, en anticipant sur l’échelle, le contexte et la configuration des futurs patrons morphologiques urbains.

Ecosystèmes Modulables est une stratégie d’aménagement du sol capable d’exploiter la surface réduite de l’Ile Saint Denis tout en préservant de manière efficace les écosystèmes locaux (flore et faune) et en mettant au service de la population les cycles naturels de l’ile.
